About Sangita

Sangita was born in Austin, Texas, but she truly felt at home with her culture when she lived in Houston and became part of the Houston Durgabari Society — Bengali Cultural Center (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization).

From dancing on the inaugural stage with her closest Bengali girlfriends to celebrating many Durga Pujas there with her family, Houston Durgabari became the place that deepened her roots. Learning to read and write Bengali brought her even closer to her heritage, and she feels lucky to carry that identity forward.

This year, Sangita and her husband Allen will host Diwali in their Austin home with their community while still giving back to the place that gave her such a strong sense of Bengali identity.

Light Forward is her way of sharing the pieces she has loved — and sending their light forward — with net proceeds from this Diwali wardrobe sale benefiting Houston Durgabari Society (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization) and its language, music and dance school.

Every lehenga, anarkali, kurta and saree here is from her own wardrobe. Most were worn once or twice, all are professionally dry cleaned and stored with care, and each is listed with honest condition notes.
